MATERIA is operated by a company now being incorporated by its founders. Its legal name, registered office and registration number will appear here as soon as incorporation is complete. Contact: hello@hellomateria.com.
01What MATERIA is
MATERIA is where owners and buyers of physical assets keep their portfolios, publish what they want to buy, list what they want to sell, and close deals through a verified process. MATERIA never buys, sells or holds stock of its own. When a deal is agreed, the sale is between the buyer and the seller; MATERIA runs the process around it.
By creating an account you accept these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
02Private beta
MATERIA is in private beta. Features change, some are incomplete, and the service may be unavailable at times. Figures that are illustrative are labelled as such where they appear. Tell us what breaks: hello@hellomateria.com.
03Your account
You must be at least 18 and able to enter into contracts. Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. One account per person or business.
A professional account starts in review. MATERIA checks the business before its public page goes live and may refuse it; until then it sells as a private seller. Changing the business details sends the account back to review.
04What you add
Your portfolio, photos, listings and messages remain yours. You allow MATERIA to store and show them as needed to run the service: for example, showing a listed asset to buyers, or a professional's listings on their public page.
When you list an asset you confirm that you own it or are authorised to sell it, that it is genuine, and that the description and photos are accurate.
05What is not allowed
Counterfeit, stolen or replica items, and anything you may not lawfully sell. Offers you do not intend to honour. Sharing phone numbers, emails or links in messages to take a deal outside MATERIA. Copying or scraping the service, or using it to harass anyone. We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
06Offers and deals
An offer is a commitment. When the seller accepts, a deal opens, the asset is reserved and both sides agree to complete it through the steps shown on the deal page: payment held until verification, authentication by a MATERIA partner, shipping, and release of payment on delivery. Authentication may be optional when the seller is a verified professional; the deal page says which steps apply and who pays for what.
MATERIA does not hold members' money itself. Until a regulated payment provider is in place, MATERIA confirms by hand that funds are secured before any step that depends on them.
07Fees
The seller pays a fee on completed deals. The fee is shown on the deal before the seller accepts and is fixed when the deal opens. During the beta, members who join as beta testers pay no fee for the first six months. Keeping a portfolio, publishing wanted orders and listing are free.
08Valuations and market information
Valuations, price history and market signals on MATERIA are information to help you decide. They are not financial or investment advice and are not a guarantee of what an asset will sell for. Your own estimate is shown as yours and never as a MATERIA valuation.
09Responsibility
Each member is responsible for what they list, offer and promise. MATERIA helps resolve problems between members but does not take on their obligations. To the extent the law allows, MATERIA is not liable for indirect losses, and its total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be excluded.
10Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by writing to hello@hellomateria.com. Deals already open must be completed or cancelled first. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
11Changes to these terms
We will tell you about significant changes by email or in the app before they apply. If you keep using MATERIA after that, the new terms apply. Version 2026-10-26.
12Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the law of the country where you live and can bring a claim there.
